About Us
People are always asking me how Garden State Blinds got started and they’re always surprised when I tell them I was only 16 when I started the company. My mom and dad were the perfect role models. They both had strong work ethics and the best marriage I have ever seen to this day! They raised me to be an honorable hard-working man and I am eternally grateful for their help and guidance. My father, Vito Conforti Senior, was a science teacher at Jonas Salk Middle School in Old Bridge, NJ, and he also taught night school. My mother, Honey, was a talented seamstress who made bridal gowns and bridal party dresses. She later began making custom upholstered cornices and draperies for our company. She passed away from breast cancer in 1992. God rest her soul.
I was always a go-getter, so by the age of twelve I had 14 paper routes and a part-time job! I knew I wanted to run my own business so I asked my father for help. He suggested I sell window treatments because he knew someone who fabricated them and he got me my first set of hand samples to show hopeful customers. Even though he was very busy with his teaching jobs, he made the time to drive me around with new hand samples so that we could make sales together.
It was a slow but steady start, and before long I couldn’t keep up with the volume so I asked my brother-in-law, Brett, to join the company. Brett quickly became an expert and he has been vital to the company’s success. Garden State Blinds wouldn’t be what it is today if it wasn’t for Brett.
We have a great team here at Garden State Blinds. Mary Joy has been our Administrative Director since 1999 and is invaluable to our operations. Clare has been a sales representative since 2008 and is an amazing decorating consultant. Frank is a meticulous professional installer who’s been with us for many years. My son Andrew works for the company part-time and attends college full-time. He is studying Business at Rutgers University.
Everyone at Garden State Blinds works hard to make each customer’s experience second to none! Because of that, our customers are our greatest advertisers. Our customers tell us time and time again that they trust us, and we invest in keeping their trust and happiness more than any advertising campaign.
We treat our customers, their homes, and their offices with the utmost respect and consideration. We take the time to measure precisely. We call every customer after the job is done to make sure they’re happy. We value their input. We have over 450 thank you letters from satisfied customers. Some of these letters are posted on our website, but one of my favorites is from Charlie Schembri. He said, “I truly believe that you are in the wrong business. You guys should be in the business of showing people how to run a successful business.”
I’m so grateful for those first customers who gave a 16-year-old kid a chance. Word of mouth goes a long way. Thanks to the customers that took the time to tell others about us, we have an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, and all positive reviews on social media sites like Google, FaceBook, and Yelp. We’re proud to be the Garden State’s #1 Choice for Window Treatments.
We invite you to Join our family of over 100,000 Happy Customers!
